Day 1ARRIVE IN LIMA AND ENJOY A COMFORTABLE TRANSFER TO YOUR HOTEL.

When your international flight arrives in Lima, look for your Samex Tours Peru host holding a sign with your name. We understand that after a long flight, you might feel tired, so we’ll take care of everything. Skip the stress of navigating through the city—our team will transfer you directly to your hotel where you can relax and refresh with a shower and a well-deserved rest.

Take the evening to unwind and enjoy a peaceful night’s sleep, preparing for your early morning flight to Puerto Maldonado the next day.

Overnight: in Lima

Day 2FLY TO PUERTO MALDONADO AND EMBARK ON YOUR AMAZON JUNGLE ADVENTURE!.

Your Samex Tours Peru host will pick you up early in the morning for your flight to Puerto Maldonado. Upon your arrival, our team will warmly greet you and transport you to our office located in the heart of Puerto Maldonado. If you have any luggage you won’t need in the rainforest, feel free to securely store it at our facility, simplifying your journey to the lodge.

Next, we’ll embark on the river vessel “Puerto Bolívar” for a scenic 40-minute cruise along the Madre de Dios River, leading us to Lodge Corto Maltes Amazonía.

Upon arrival, indulge in refreshing seasonal fruit drinks as our guide briefs you on your stay and hands over the keys to your bungalow and a security safe. After lunch, take some time to relax before your first jungle excursion. For passengers arriving on flights after 1 pm, a Box Lunch made from 100% recyclable material will be provided.

At 3:30 pm, set out for your first jungle exploration. Your expert guide will lead you through the tropical trees and medicinal plants within the 60 hectares of Brazil nut concession managed by Corto Maltes Amazonía. Along the way, visit a shiringuero encampment to observe the rubber collection process, an essential economic activity in the Madre de Dios region. This trek lasts approximately 2 hours.

After returning to the lodge, unwind by the pool or relax in the hammocks on your bungalow’s terrace. Treat yourself to an exotic cocktail at the bar or enjoy a soothing massage from our skilled staff. Browse our shop for handcrafted rainforest souvenirs, or head to the riverside to catch a breathtaking sunset.

At 7:00 pm, before dinner, join us for a nocturnal boat trip to observe caimans and, if lucky, other nocturnal riverbank inhabitants. Then, at 8:00 pm, enjoy a delicious dinner in our riverside dining room.

Day 3SANDOVAL LAKE - VISIT TO THE LOOKOUT TOWER AND BRAZIL NUT HARVESTING CAMP.

After breakfast, your adventure begins with a visit to Sandoval Lake, a pristine lake located within the Tambopata National Reserve. Travel by boat along the Madre de Dios River, surrounded by lush jungle, until you reach the lake’s entrance. From here, embark on a scenic walk through the forest, keeping an eye out for wildlife such as monkeys, birds, and caimans.

Once at Sandoval Lake, you’ll board a canoe for a peaceful paddle across the water, surrounded by the beauty of the Amazon rainforest. Your expert guide will help you spot wildlife along the shore, including giant river otters, which are frequently seen here.

After exploring Sandoval Lake, we’ll take you to the Lookout Tower, which offers panoramic views of the surrounding rainforest canopy. Climbing the tower provides an incredible perspective of the Amazon and the chance to spot birds such as parrots, toucans, and even monkeys.

In the afternoon, you’ll visit a Brazil Nut Harvesting Camp, where you’ll learn about the process of collecting Brazil nuts, one of the region’s most important exports. Your guide will explain the sustainable practices used by local harvesters and the significance of Brazil nuts in the local economy.

After a full day of exploration, return to the lodge to relax, enjoy a delicious dinner, and reflect on your unforgettable experiences in the heart of the Amazon.

Day 4A DAY ENJOYING JUNGLE EXCURSIONS - PARROT AND MAMMAL CLAY LICKS.

After breakfast, your guide will take you to one of the most unique natural attractions of the region: the Parrot Clay Lick.

Morning Excursion: Parrot Clay Lick
In the early morning mist, you’ll travel by boat along the Madre de Dios River to the Parrot Clay Lick, where large flocks of colorful parrots, macaws, and parakeets gather to feed on the mineral-rich clay. This behavior helps neutralize toxins from their diet, and it’s a stunning sight as hundreds of birds come together in vibrant displays.

Following the birdwatching experience, you’ll return to the lodge for a well-deserved break and lunch.

Afternoon Excursion: Mammal Clay Lick
In the afternoon, you’ll head to the Mammal Clay Lick, where various jungle mammals, such as wild pigs, capybaras, and other creatures, visit the clay licks to ingest minerals. Day 5FLY TO CUSCO, VISIT A WONDERFUL LOCAL PROJECT THAT PROMOTES SUSTAINABLE WEAVING PRACTICES, AND RELAX INTO THE BREATHTAKING ANDEAN COUNTRYSIDE.

After an early breakfast at the lodge, your Samex Tours Peru host will escort you back to the Puerto Maldonado airport for your flight to Cusco. Upon arrival, you’ll be greeted by your local guide who will take you on an enriching journey into the heart of the Andean highlands.

Your first stop will be a local community project that supports sustainable weaving practices in the Sacred Valley. Here, you’ll learn about the techniques passed down through generations of Andean artisans, preserving traditional textile artistry. You’ll have the opportunity to witness firsthand the process of transforming natural fibers into intricate, colorful designs, and interact with the artisans who create these beautiful textiles. Many of these crafts are made with eco-friendly materials, making it a fantastic example of how the community blends culture with sustainability.

After visiting the weaving project, continue your journey through the stunning Sacred Valley. Day 6EXPLORE THE SACRED VALLEY: OLLANTAYTAMBO, PISAC MARKET, AND INCA RUINS.

Today, your exploration of the Sacred Valley begins with a visit to the ancient town of Ollantaytambo, a place where Inca influence is still visible in its daily life. As you wander through the town, you’ll notice water flowing from the mountains through the original Inca-built street canals. The architecture here is also a testament to the past, with original Inca walls and trapezoidal doors still intact.

Accompanied by your guide, you’ll ascend beyond the impressive stepped terraces to the Ollantaytambo ruins, a centuries-old Inca fortress. This site was an important battleground where the Incas secured a notable victory over the Spanish conquistadors. Your guide will explain the history of this site and point out the distant quarries where the massive stone blocks used to construct the ruins were sourced. From this elevated location, you’ll enjoy breathtaking panoramic views of the valley and the winding Urubamba River.

Next, your journey continues to Pisac, a charming town known for its vibrant market. Day 7TAKE A MORNING TRAIN THROUGH THE CLOUD FOREST AND VISIT THE MACHU PICCHU CITADEL.

In the morning, we’ll board the train in Ollantaytambo for a scenic journey to Machu Picchu, as the lush cloud jungle unfolds before you through large glass windows. As you sit back and enjoy the view, you’ll be immersed in the beautiful landscapes of the Sacred Valley and the surrounding cloud forest.

Upon arrival in Aguas Calientes, we’ll enjoy an early lunch to recharge before making our way to the legendary Machu Picchu. After lunch, a short bus ride will take us to the gates of this ancient citadel, where you will pass through the entrance with your private guide to finally emerge at the top of the world – Machu Picchu.

Here, the magnificent Inca stone structures spread out before you, often shrouded in clouds and then revealed in their full glory. Your expert guide will take you on a private tour of the citadel, explaining its history, its stunning architecture, and the many mysteries of this world-renowned archaeological site. Day 8HIKE HUAYNA PICCHU AND RETURN TO CUSCO.

Start your final day in Machu Picchu with an early morning hike up the iconic Huayna Picchu. This challenging and exhilarating trail offers one of the best panoramic views of the Inca Citadel and the surrounding Sacred Valley. Huayna Picchu is a coveted hike with limited-entry access, ensuring a more exclusive and intimate experience as you ascend the steep path, navigating through ancient stone steps and narrow passages. Upon reaching the summit, you’ll be rewarded with breathtaking, sweeping views of Machu Picchu, the Urubamba River, and the lush green mountains.

After taking in the views and snapping some photos, descend the trail to return to Aguas Calientes. Once backs, enjoy a well-deserved lunch in Aguas Calientes before boarding the train back to Ollantaytambo.

Day 9EXPLORE THE HEART OF CUSCO ON A PRIVATE CITY TOUR.

First, 3 hours before your flight, we will take you to Juliaca Airport for your return flight to Lima. The flight to Lima lasts approximately 1 hour and 45 minutes, and upon arriving in the capital, you will be able to enjoy a smooth connection to your next destination or a comfortable transfer to your accommodation. We will be attentive to ensure that everything is in order and that your return is as comfortable as possible.
