The Tambopata Adventure 4D/3N is an immersive journey into the heart of the Peruvian Amazon, offering an unforgettable exploration of its pristine beauty and rich biodiversity. Over four days and three nights, visitors experience a perfect blend of adventure, wildlife, and serenity.
Highlights include a visit to the Macaw Clay Lick, where vibrant macaws and parrots gather in a colorful spectacle as they feed on the mineral-rich clay. Guests can also enjoy a serene boat ride on Sandoval Lake, home to giant river otters, caimans, and a stunning variety of bird species. Night excursions reveal the Amazon’s nocturnal wonders, such as tarantulas, frogs, and other unique creatures.
Accommodations in eco-friendly lodges provide a comfortable retreat surrounded by nature, with opportunities to relax and enjoy delicious, locally-inspired cuisine. Upon your arrival at the airport, our team will warmly welcome you and provide transportation to our office located in the heart of Puerto Maldonado. If you have any luggage that won’t be needed during your time in the rainforest, feel free to securely store it in our facility, simplifying your journey to the lodge.
Next, we’ll embark on the river-vessel “Puerto Bolívar” for a picturesque 40-minute cruise along the Madre de Dios River, leading us to the Lodge Corto Maltes Amazonía.
Upon arrival, indulge in refreshing seasonal fruit drinks as our guide briefs you on your stay and hands over keys to your bungalow and security safe. After lunch, take some time to unwind before our first excursion. For passengers arriving on flights after 1 pm, a Box Lunch made from 100% recyclable material will be provided.
At 3:30 pm, embark on your first jungle exploration with your guide, who will lead you through the tropical trees and medicinal plants within the 60 hectares of Brazil nut concession managed by Corto Maltes Amazonia. Visit a shiringuero encampment to witness the rubber collection process, a vital economic activity in the Madre de Dios region. This trek lasts approximately 2 hours.
After returning to the lodge, unwind by the pool or in the hammocks on your bungalow’s terrace. Treat yourself to an exotic cocktail at the bar or enjoy a soothing massage from our skilled staff. Browse our shop for handcrafted rainforest souvenirs or head to the riverside to catch the breathtaking sunset.
At 7:00 pm, before dinner, join us for a nocturnal boat trip to observe caimans and, if luck permits, other nocturnal riverbank inhabitants. Then, at 8:00 pm, enjoy a delicious dinner in our riverside dining room.
Wake up at 5:30 am for a refreshing cup of coffee or tea before departing for Lake Sandoval. Your guide will provide a bagged breakfast and snack for the excursion. At 6:00 am, our Lake Sandoval tour begins with a scenic 20-minute boat ride along the Madre de Dios River, arriving at the landing stage of Lake Sandoval.
Embark on a 3 km hike through the lush vegetation of Tambopata National Reserve, where you’ll encounter towering trees, diverse snakes, and an array of monkeys such as squirrel monkeys, howler monkeys, and capuchin monkeys. Keep an eye out for various bird species, including the unique Hoatzin, kingfishers, and snakebirds.
Upon reaching Lake Sandoval, board small rowboats to search for the elusive giant river otters and observe other reptiles, mammals, and birds in their natural habitat. Enjoy breakfast at a scenic spot selected by your guide. Afterward, gather your belongings for the return boat trip to the pier, arriving back at the Lodge by 1:30 pm for lunch.
At 3:30 pm, embark on a visit to one of the two lookout towers of Corto Maltes Amazonía, offering stunning views and ideal for birdwatching. Depending on guest preferences, the guide will adapt the excursion accordingly, ensuring an unforgettable experience.
Additionally, explore a Brazil nut camp, an integral part of the Madre de Dios region’s economy. Take some free time to relax by the pool, indulge in a soothing massage, visit the bar for refreshments, or browse our souvenir shop.
Cap off the day with a delightful dinner at 8:00 pm.
8:00 am: Enjoy breakfast followed by leisure time.
9:00 am: Experience the culture of the Machiguenga, one of the indigenous groups of the Peruvian Amazon. Visit a native Machiguenga family who will showcase their ancestral traditions, language, and customs. Learn about their traditional attire, hunting tools, handicrafts, and music, including the significance of ayahuasca ceremonies. Discover how they utilize natural resources to craft tools, build houses, and create ornaments essential to their daily lives.
11:00 am: Embark on a 20-minute boat ride downstream to reach a chacra, a local family-owned farm. Explore the farm and taste various seasonal tropical fruits along with other native products such as cacao, banana, cocona, bread-fruit, noni, and yucca. This farm is meticulously maintained without the use of chemicals, and its produce is sold in the markets of Puerto Maldonado.
1:00 pm: Return to the Lodge for lunch.
2:00 pm: Relax at the lodge and enjoy free time. Visit the boutique, take a refreshing dip in the pool, savor a cocktail at the bar, or indulge in a soothing massage.
8:00 pm: Dinner.
Wake up at 5:30 am for a refreshing cup of coffee or tea before embarking on a 20-minute walk to the clay lick, where you’ll have the opportunity to observe 3 to 5 types of parrots.
These parrots gather at the clay lick to ingest a special kind of clay, essential for their metabolic regulation. This natural phenomenon promises a colorful and captivating spectacle, adding excitement to your morning.
At 8:00 am, enjoy a hearty breakfast and some free time. Afterward, we’ll return to Puerto Maldonado by boat, where one of our vehicles will be waiting to transport you.
Upon arrival, we’ll make a brief stop at our office before heading to the local market. Here, you’ll have approximately 20 minutes to explore and appreciate the various typical products of the area.
Finally, we’ll transfer you to the airport for check-in for your respective flights.

Day two’s excursion to Lake Sandoval was a highlight, with sightings of diverse wildlife including monkeys and the elusive giant river otters. The visit to the lookout tower provided breathtaking views of the rainforest canopy, perfect for birdwatching. Learning about the indigenous Machiguenga culture and experiencing a chacra farm was a privilege, offering a deeper understanding of the region’s rich heritage.
