Waqrapukara Acomayo Cusco is an archaeological site and an Inca fortress in the South of Cusco. The trek is perfect for those inquisitive to know more about Inca civilization in Peru.
This off the beaten track experience begins at a small Andean village named Wayki. From here, it is about an hour hike up to the inca site that nestles at 4300 metres above sea level. In Quechua, the name Warapukara signifies Horn Fortress. It is located in the ravine covered forest.
The trek is quite a rewarding experience. You will be hiking through the Apurimac river and canyon. You will be witnessing different flora and fauna of the region. You will also get an insight to the life and culture of locals in this remote Andean village.
We will be picking you up from your hotel in Cusco early in the morning at 4:00 AM. We will then drive you through the Sacred Valley of Incas to Cusipata village. Here we will be stopping for breakfast. After breakfast, we will be touring the Pomacanchi lagoon.
We will then drive to Huayqui. This is the starting point of the Waqrapukara hike. Here our guide will be briefing you before we will begin the hike.
On our way up, we will be stopping to see the well preserved cave paintings.
Once at the archaeological complex of Warqapukara, we will be giving you a guided tour of the complex. On this tour, we will be visiting the sungate, the spiritual ceremony centre. Our guide will also give you a tour of the premises of the Inca God, Viracocha.
From up above the fortress, you will get a breathtaking view of the Apurimac canyon. Once you have had your fill of the full day hike, we will hike back down to Huayqui where we started from. Here we will stop for lunch.
After lunch, we will be driving you back to your hotel in Cusco.
