Upon arrival at the airport or bus station, you’ll be transferred to our office for a final briefing before embarking on our adventure. We recommend repacking your luggage to bring only essentials for the trip.
We’ll then travel by land transfer (4X4) in a truck for approximately 2 hours to reach the banks of the Tambopata River. If traveling by river, the journey may take more than 6 hours (for informational purposes only). From there, we’ll board a boat to reach the Monte Amazonico – Tambopata lodge.
Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with either breakfast or lunch, depending on the time of your arrival. In the afternoon, we’ll embark on an introductory walk through the tropical jungle, offering opportunities to observe various animals in their natural habitat, including amphibians, mammals, reptiles, and fascinating insects.

Day 2Lodge - The Chuncho Adventure

We rise bright and early at 4:30 am for an unforgettable boat excursion to the renowned macaw clay lick “EL CHUNCHO,” a scenic journey of approximately 1.5 hours. Along the way, keep your eyes peeled for wildlife sightings, including capybaras, tapirs, and if you’re lucky, the majestic jaguar. Many of our guests have captured these encounters with stunning photographic evidence.

Upon reaching the macaw clay lick, marvel at the spectacle of hundreds of parrots of various species (11 in total) congregating to feast on the mineral-rich clay along the riverbank. Settle into your seats and witness one of nature’s most captivating bird shows as colorful macaws, including red-and-green and blue-and-yellow varieties, join in. On a good day, you’ll witness a breathtaking display as hundreds of these magnificent birds soar overhead.

After this awe-inspiring experience, return to our lodge for breakfast and relaxation. Later, embark on a leisurely stroll through the botanical garden accompanied by our knowledgeable guide, where you’ll discover a variety of fruit, timber, and medicinal plant species native to our region.

Following lunch, enjoy the opportunity to kayak along the tranquil Tambopata River, silently gliding through the water for optimal wildlife viewing. As night falls, you can choose to unwind and rest or partake in another nocturnal walk, immersing yourself further in the enchanting sights and sounds of the rainforest under the stars.

Day 3Monkey Island Adventure

After a hearty breakfast, our boat awaits to ferry us back to Puerto Maldonado. From there, we’ll transfer to the port and embark on a one-hour boat ride to our welcoming hostel, where refreshing fruit juices from the region await. Check-in and accommodation will be provided.

Following a brief rest, you’ll embark on a two-hour guided walk through the dense tropical forest. Led by an expert guide, you’ll traverse trails teeming with ancient trees, some over five hundred years old. Keep an eye out for a variety of wildlife, including toucans, orioles, parrots, monkeys, snakes, and butterflies. Experience the enchantment of the Amazon jungle within the Tambopata National Wildlife Reserve, spanning 278,000 protected hectares.

After lunch, we’ll visit Monkey Island, situated across the Madre de Dios River from our lodge. Here, encounter different species of monkeys inhabiting the island, including the brown capuchin, squirrel monkey, and saddleback marmoset. Later in the afternoon, we’ll set out in search of alligators, often found on the sandbanks of the Madre de Dios River. Don’t forget to bring a flashlight for this excursion. You might also catch sight of capybaras along the way.

Return to the lodge in the evening for dinner and a well-deserved rest.

With luck, you may encounter the remarkable family of giant river otters, nearly two meters long and facing the threat of extinction. Witness their playful antics and graceful movements as they navigate the tranquil waters of Sandoval Lake.

After your morning exploration, return to the lodge for a delightful typical lunch, savoring the flavors of the Amazon region.

In the afternoon, seize the opportunity for another immersive jungle trek, where you’ll encounter a fascinating diversity of insects, amphibians, reptiles, and nocturnal animals. Engage your senses as you delve deeper into the heart of the Amazon rainforest.
