Tour Details

South Valley Tour Cusco to the three iconic sites – Tipon, Pikillacta and Andahuaylillas Church of San Pedro is a perfect addition to the Sacred Valley and Maras Moray tour to get a complete overview of both Inca and Pre Inca (Wari) civilization.

Tipon:
This half day tour starts with a short drive from Cusco to Tipon. This is a small Andean village on the outskirts of Cusco. It is home to an 15th century archaeological site perched on a hilltop, overlooking the valley.

Tipon is popular for its agricultural terracing. These terraces were fed by natural spring water. Most of these aqueducts are in use even today.

The stone work of Incas in Tipon is among the few unmissable things here.

Pikillacta:
This pre Inca site was built during the Wari civilization. As Incas, agriculture played a vital role during the Wari civilization.

A notable thing is Maize was an important crop to Waris. It was so important that when the archaeologists excavated the site, they found pottery with paintings of Maize along with their deities.

Andahuaylillas:
This serene village was a part of the Andean baroque route and houses the sistine chapel of the Americas. This whitewashed church was built by Jesuits in the 16th century on the remains of a Pre Columbian ceremonial site.

The South Valley Tour Cusco to Tipon, Pikillacta Ruins, and Andahuaylillas Church was a delightful journey through history and culture, offering a fascinating glimpse into the rich tapestry of Peruvian heritage. Our day commenced with a prompt pick-up from my hotel in Cusco, and soon we found ourselves immersed in the ancient wonders of Tipon.

Exploring the archaeological site of Tipon was a truly enriching experience, with its terraced landscapes and intricate irrigation systems providing insight into the advanced engineering prowess of the Inca civilization. The tantalizing aroma of Guinea Pig, a local delicacy, added an extra layer of authenticity to our journey.
